Guilty by association

This whole morning I have been thinking of a topic to blog about. In the back of my mind I have been struggling with a particular issue and I was wondering if some of you could share your opinion.

Is it wrong to stop being friends with someone because of their life style? At what point do you say, “I don’t agree with what you do with your life and I don’t think we should talk or be seen together.” The motive would be the fear that their rep would stain yours. Lets say they understand and respect that you are a Christian and they don’t judge you even though they don’t share the same belief’s. Is that right to turn them away? After all one day they may find God through you. Is there a point in which you just give up on someone? In my humble opinion I believe that you never turn someone away….as long as they don’t cause you to stumble. You never know how God can use you in that person’s life. I think Churches have gotten a bad wrap over loving people from a distance. We love you sinner as long as you don’t sin around us. In a sense I think I might have answered my own question but I am interested in hearing what you all think.

I don’t know.

I’ve been trying hard to think of something to blog about. I don’t really have much to say. I had an interesting weekend. Spent time with family. My wife and I finally got time to relax with one another. It made me realize how lucky I am. Last week was a bad week for me. I was so depressed about everything. I was just plain unhappy. Work sucked, home sucked, my attitude sucked. The weekend really boosted my spirits despite a humbling experience on Sunday. It’s crazy how a little time with the ones you love the most can really put things in perspective. I am happy to say I am out of my funk. I know it’s only Monday but hey it’s a start.

Top 5 Songs of the Week

Wow Friday already! Well here is the new top five songs of the week. As always please post 5 of your favorites.

5. “Anywhere with you” By Saves the Day. Another funky song but it has a really unique melody.

4. “Around the way” By Wonder Life. This was on an episode of Smallville and I really liked it. It reminded me of an 80’s baled.

3. “Our Happy Home” By David Crowder. I was painting my house last weekend to some Crowder and this song came on and I was like wow I love this song. The Banjo in this song is awesome.

2. “This is your Life” By Switchfoot. Love these guys and I can’t stop listening to this song.

1. “Collide” By Dishwalla. This song is awesome. I love the chorus. This will be a favorite for a long time. I highly recommend you check it out!

Well there they are. Please leave you feedback and let me know your top five as of late.

This is your life

You know I was just listening to one of my new favorite songs. “This is your life” by Switchfoot. It also reminded me of an episode of Smallville where Clark Kent had to make a decision whether or not to obey his Father and rule the planet earth thus fulfilling his destiny or to chose his own path and help people who are in need. The lyric “This is your life, are you who you want to be?” is so relevant to someone my age and younger. At this age is where you are just getting started at this game called life. It’s at this stage where you start shaping who you are. What kind of person you will become. Sometimes I get into the habit of just going with the flow instead of keeping myself on tract to become the person God wants me to become. This Song was a good reminder.

Yesterday is a wrinkle on your forehead
Yesterday is a promise that you’ve broken
Don’t close your eyes, don’t close your eyes
This is your life and today is all you’ve got now
Yeah, and today is all you’ll ever have
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes

This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose

Yesterday is a kid in the corner
Yesterday is dead and over

This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose

Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes

This is your life are you who you want to be
This is your life are you who you want to be

This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose

And you had everything to lose

Love not compatible with eHarmony

So I heard on the radio the other day some hilarious piece of celebrity gossip about one of the people I can’t stand the most. Apparently lady rocker/murderer/widow of Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love is making her first attempts at fulfilling her New Years resolutions. First on her list….Love. According to sources at eHarmony, Courtney Love joined the site but shortly after received a message from the people at eHarmony refunding her money. It turns out that only 2% of the population on the site were compatible with Courtney and therefore eHarmony could not help her find a mate!

Give it up

Andy Stanley lead Paster of North Point Community Church was giving a lesson last week about obedience to God. He told the story In Luke about how Simon had fished all night and caught nothing. Then Jesus told Simon to go back out and let his net down once more. Of Course Simon argued a little with Jesus but went back out and let his net down. When he did the net was filled so full that it began to break apart.

Andy went on to talk about giving up our self to God. How if we just give up our pride or whatever God asks of us he will fill our void with His spirit. He went on to give an illustration. He picked a woman out of the audience and told her if she comes up on stage she and does whatever he asks of her, she will leave the stage better off than when she came. So the woman gets up and joins Andy on the stage. He tells the woman that she is to give him whatever he asks of her and she will not get it back. Even after the service he didn’t want her coming up to him asking for her stuff back. He told again if she did what she asked, she would leave the stage better off than when she came. So she agreed and Andy proceeded with his requests. He first said to the woman, “Give me five dollars.” The woman without hesitating opened her purse and gave Andy a five dollar bill. Andy then said, “That’s a nice watch you have there, although I really like that ring too.” The woman squirmed a little. Andy said, “Let me have that watch.” The woman hesitated a little and then gives Andy the watch. Then Andy looks at the ring on her finger. He says to her, “Let me have that ring.” The woman looks at Andy and looks at the ring and says, “Oh I don’t know, I just got this ring.” Andy assures her that if she does what he asks that she will leave the stage better off then when she came. The woman refuses him. “I just bought this ring and I like it too much to give it up.” Andy say, “Thank you Ma’am. Even though you didn’t give me the ring I am still going to give you what I was going to give you if you had done what I asked.” Andy then gives the woman her five dollars back, along with her watch, and with it a crisp fifty dollar bill. Even though the woman didn’t give him everything he asked of her she still left better off than when she came.

This speaks volumes about what God will give us if we are obedient to what He asks of us. I know there are a few things God wants from me I just need to give them up.

Would you like some tea?

Okay so I had a strange morning this morning. I haven’t been getting a lot of sleep lately so I think this might have contributed to this particular occurrence. Anyway, I woke up this morning in a haze and in my confusion I asked my wife if she would like some tea. Where did that come from? I don’t drink tea! My wife doesn’t drink tea! There isn’t a single bag in the house! Anyway this leads me to this mornings poll. What is the craziest thing you’ve said when you are half asleep? I’ll leave you with mine. My friend and I were up late one night watching the movie Independence Day. I was super tired and began to doze right about the time the Aliens were shooting up the army base. I casually turned to my friend and said, “I don’t know why they are so afraid of those aliens, all they have to do is wear long sleeves!” So should I my my appointment for a CAT scan now?

The show must go on

captured_group.jpg

So despite numerous obstacles both spiritual and musical, Captured went on and Rocked the Civic. We had a pretty decent turnout too. It was such a good feeling to show people that worshiping God can be more than singing lyrics you don’t understand out of a song book. “Not that there is anything wrong with that” Seinfeld quotes aside, I was very encouraged both musically and spiritually. Most importantly God has blessed me to be a part of something with four people who have changed my life in many different ways. If you didn’t get a chance to come out to the show, you can see us here 52 times a year!
